And Why It’s So Healthy
Here’s a delicious recipe for curried nuts.
Nuts are excellent for your health because they contain micronutrients and macronutrients. What are these nutrients?
Micronutrients and macronutrients in nuts
We divided nutrients into two categories: macronutrients and micronutrients.
Macronutrients
Macronutrients provide energy measured in calories. They are parts of the diet that are consumed in large doses.
There are four categories of macronutrients.
- Proteins
- Carbohydrates
- Fats
- Fibers
Micronutrients
Micronutrients are present in food, but in tiny doses, hence the name micronutrient. These elements are essential but toxic if consumed in high doses. They provide us with elements essential to the body’s proper functioning, without playing a role from a caloric point of view.
- Vitamins
- Minerals (e.g., calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium)
- Trace elements (e.g., iron, fluorine, iodine, selenium, zinc).
Why walnuts are good for you
Walnuts are an excellent source of vegetable protein and fibre. They contain fats, but most are unsaturated, i.e. excellent for your health. They provide a feeling of satiety thanks to their protein and fibre content.
They also contain micro-nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and trace elements.
The big drawback is to be careful how much you eat, as walnuts are very high in calories. Be aware of the amount of salt, which is why it’s a good idea to cook them yourself.
A portion is about 30 grams or a handful. Yes, a handful! That’s the hard part, especially with this recipe for curried walnuts.
